doc-number is generally provided in DOCDB-normalized format. Exceptions include WO documents, where the doc-number is normalized to YYYYnnnnnn, US pre-granted documents where the doc-number is normalized to YYYYnnnnnnn, and AU publication numbers, which are provided in the 10-digit AUSPAT format if they differ from the DOCDB numbers. For example, the DOCDB number 5556701 will be converted to 2001255567 (YYYYnnnnnn). We also recommend checking the Content Notifications for patent number or kind code changes.

Note that some documents (utility models, reissued patents, etc.) contain non-standard kind codes used by various patent-granting authorities. See the Kind Code Concordance List for a list of many of the kind codes corresponding to the different publication stages of a patent application.

Note: If no date is present and a document-id element exists, a default value of 00010101 (which may appear as 10101) or 19000101 is inserted. The 00010101 date is available in Solr responses only and is not present in the XML.
